February 2026
Hello everyone, it is time for a bit of housekeeping around here, so let’s jump into it, shall we?
First off, if you haven’t noticed, I have started hosting interviews (more like conversations) with various people involved in the photo community/industry, from artists, to writers, to festival and bookstore people, with some publishers on the way to add to the mix bag of people I’m trying to talk to.
Secondly, I have started writing photobook reviews for Float Magazine, and I will also start contributing to the PhotoBook Journal sometime in the near future. However, I will continue writing reviews for myself and sharing them here on Substack.
Thirdly, how are all of you doing? What is going on in your corner of the world? What are you working on, looking at, listening to, etc? Are you enjoying the conversations I am hosting?
I am trying to make the best out of being stuck inside while I recover from my back injury, and ironically, I am currently experiencing what a lot of people went through during COVID. I was considered an essential worker since I worked in a pharmacy, so my life didn’t change all that much during the pandemic in terms of routine and such.
Now, though, I find myself staring at my apartment walls and out my windows day in and day out, save when I go to physical therapy, which is an interesting and maddening reality for me to deal with. I am used to being a fairly active person; I walked to work every day, my work is physical in nature, and I would go on photo walks after work or on weekends to calm my mind, which has all come to a screeching halt as I recover.
So these interviews and book reviews are a way for me to make use of this extra “downtime” I currently have, so my posts may lean more that way for a while, with the occasional ramble or photo sequence.
To be more professional, I now have a proper website instead of using Substack as my homepage, so if you want to check it out, you can find it here.
I don’t have much to say other than be kind to one another, the world needs love, not division, keep fighting the good fight, and I will see you around in the next post.
With love, Matt.
Attention is vitality. It connects you with others. It makes you eager. Stay eager.
